Emily De Vito
My name is Emily De Vito and I am currently a reporter and producer at WNYT in Albany, New York. I started working in Albany in September 2017 and since starting as a producer I have been able to transition into what I really love, which is reporting. Being versatile has allowed me to have strong communication with members of the newsroom, improve my writing, and generate creative story ideas. I have been able to cover breaking news, political issues and human interest pieces. Also, producing two shows on the weekends has given me the opportunity to manage reporters as well as make decision on what content is pertinent to our newscasts. I feel wearing two hats has made me a well rounded reporter to have in the newsroom because I am aware of how vital each role is to making a station one to watch.
Before coming to Albany, I worked as an anchor and reporter in Binghamton, New York at WBNG for two years. There I was given endless opportunities to improve myself on the anchor desk. It was there I learned how to be an MMJ and balance shooting, writing, editing and going LIVE on a tight deadline.
In August 2015 I received an M.S. in Broadcast and Digital Journalism at Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. I received my undergraduate degree from Elon University in May 2014 and graduated with a B.A. in Media Arts & Entertainment: Broadcast and New media and minors in Dance Performance and Professional Writing.
I enjoy reporting breaking news, politics and health pieces. My passion for being a multimedia journalist allows me to connect with the community through Facebook, twitter, periscope, and other social media sites. It is important to me that my stories reach a community on multiple levels and not just through television. Nothing makes me happier than when a community member comes up to me, telling me how my story has made a difference for them.
While a master's student, I received the opportunity to go to Washington DC and report for WTAJ-TV, a news station in Altoona, Pennsylvania. My packages were aired in that market, while I was still a student. I have also had the opportunity to intern with inspiring news stations such as, CBS6 in Albany, New York, ABC11 News Station in Durham, North Carolina, and WSYR Channel9 in Syracuse, New York. At these news stations I was able to go out into the field with reporters daily, generate content ideas for shows, and write scripts for newscasts.
I have provided examples of the work I have done here on my website. Please do not hesitate to contact me for more samples of my work and be sure to follow me on twitter (@emilydevito) and check out my Facebook (Emily De Vito WBNG).
